Balintore Castle was designed by William Burn, as a baronial-style mansion. It is very impressive overlooking the valley.
It was built in 1865 as a hunting / shooting lodge for David Lyon. He wished to demonstrate the fortune his family had aquired by investing in the East India Company.
It was rumoured that every carthorse in Angus had been killed transporting all the sandstone to construct it.
Now derelict, it is still an impressive sight and well worth a visit.
There are plans to possibly restore it to its former glory.
